Assignment Overview

Research Purpose: To gain in-depth knowledge of both sides of an issue related to the concept of "justice" in order to write a substantive paper and to prepare an oral presentation defining and explaining your topic.

Research Requirements:

Paper length and number of sources required--

  • CP: 4-5 pages, 4 sources 
  • EP: 5-6 pages, 6 sources 
  • HP: 6-7 pages, 7 sources 

Citations-- 

  • use Chicago/Turabian Notes/Bibliography style for footnotes and citations
  • an annotated bibliography is required for Assignment #2
  • a final bibliography is required with your final paper
  • all sources and citations must be organized in NoodleTools

         Types of sources--

  • may include books, articles, reference material from library databases, and websites
  • No general encyclopedias, Wikipedia, or ASK.com

 

Research Overview

As you review available resources, keep these questions in mind:

1.     Background information

  • What is the issue?
  • What does this topic have to do with the concept of justice?
  • What do you need to know to understand the historical context of this issue?

2.     Controversy over the issue

  • What are the key terms?
  • Who are the major stakeholders?
  • What are the different positions on this issue?
  • What is the logic and reasoning behind each side's argument?

3.    Arguments and Evidence

 For every argument, you need to gather supporting evidence, such as:

  • facts
  • research studies
  • statistics
  • expert opinions

4.    Definition of Justice

How do others define justice related to this issue?
