Assignment Overview

Research Purpose: To explore a significant event, person, or movement in the history of the U.S. between the years 1865 and 1929. Your task is to conduct research, analyze the historical context, and present your findings in a well-structured 4 page essay.

Research Requirements:

  • Topics may be selected from the provided list, or approved by Mr. Tilford if not listed
  • Essays must include 4-6 pages of body text
  • Include footnotes formatted in proper Chicago Turabian style
  • Include a final bibliography in proper Chicago Turabian style

Source Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 sources, maximum of 6
  • At least 1 primary source
  • No general encyclopedias, including online encyclopedias 
  • Use reliable sources-- library databases are recommended
  • All web sites require a Web Site Evaluation Form and teacher approval
