Assignment Handout: 2025 Robber Baron or Captain of Industry Term Paper- Myers

Research Purpose: To compare and contrast an entrepreneur form the Gilded Age with a modern entrepreneur through research into their background, business practices, impact on society, and personal qualities. Evaluate whether the two business leaders you selected should be considered robber barons or captains of industry. Students will use their research to write a well-structured argumentative essay with evidence to support their thesis.

Research Requirements:

• Support your arguments with specific examples
• Essays must have 3-5 pages of  body text
• Include footnotes formatted in proper Chicago Turabian style
• Include a final bibliography in proper Chicago Turabian style

Source Requirements:

• Minimum of  4 credible sources, 1 must be a book
• Use reliable sources-- books and library database articles are recommended
• No general encyclopedias, including online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia
• All web sites require a Web Site Evaluation Form and teacher approval
