Assignment Overview

Research Purpose: To introduce students to the history research and writing process and to explore/celebrate the theme of global diversity in modern world history in an intentional effort to recover the voices often suppressed in historical discourse. Topics for exploration may include a person, event, or theme from the time period 1300- mid-1800s. Themes may include, but are not limited to, tracing the development of indigenous people, people of color, women, or other underrepresented groups.

Research Requirements:

            Number of sources: Minimum of 5, maximum of 6

Type of sources:

  • Reliable primary and secondary sources, including videos, podcasts, or websites
  • Include at least one of each of the following:
    • 1 book
    • 1 website (with teacher approval)
    • 1 source from a library database
    • 1 primary source
  • Do not include your textbook, any general encyclopedias, Wikipedia, or general history sites (e.g. history.com)

Citations:

  • Use Chicago/Turabian Notes/Bibliography style for footnotes and citations
  • Include a final bibliography at the end of your paper

Final paper length: 4 full pages of text, plus your title page and bibliography
