Citation Guidelines Grades 1-3: Citing Facts

Citing Facts and Information Grades 1-3

Citation Guidelines for Grades 1 through 3--For Citing Facts and Information

When gathering facts and information for a project or report, you need to give credit to the original owner of the ideas. For each information source you use, you will create a citation. At the end of the project, you will make one list of all these citations that is called a bibliography or a works cited page.

A print copy is available below:

From each source you use to find facts and information, record the information as shown in the examples:

(Note: When hand writing and not typing, underline instead of using italics.)

Final Works Cited List

At the end of your project, create one list with all your citations for each reference resource you used:

  • Your entries may be listed in any order (starting in 4th grade you will need to alphabetize your list).
  • Skip a line between entries.
  • For each new citation, or source, begin on a new line.
  • The sample below uses the examples and alphabetizes them in a final list.
