Property Description

About five miles south of the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, this one acre mountain property slopes gently up from Highway 34 on County Road 475, also known as Highwood Lane. As you turn up the road and travel up the hill, the first thing you will notice is the mountain meadow that sweeps up from the base of the hill. During springtime, it is covered in wildflowers native to the region. Fed by a mountain stream, the meadow provides the perfect habitat for deer, moose, and the occasional bear. About a third of the way up the hill the meadow becomes more forested with a dense stand of lodge pole pine. As you round the curve at the top of the hill, an A-frame style cabin with two bedrooms is sited to enjoy views down the hill toward Shadow Mountain Lake.

This home is owned by a retired college professor who loves the outdoors and appreciates the beauty of the surrounding natural area. He lives in the house by himself from mid-April until the second snowfall of the season. Approaching ninety years old, the owner loves to have his family come visit in the summer, but has limited space for overnight guests with two small bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms with only one shower!

After thinking about adding guest space with an additional bedroom and bathroom to accommodate guests, the owner has decided not to build on to the existing home for environmental and sustainability reasons. The house is built on two of the five buildable plots but the owner does not want to destroy any of the natural beauty, especially the meadow and pine forest.

The tiny home option would allow for added guest space while maintaining the pristine setting.
